Group shaken after sectarian attack in Belfast

A group of young people were left badly shaken when they were attacked by youths who believed they were Catholics.

A group of young people were left badly shaken when they were attacked by youths who believed they were Catholics.

The incident happened outside the Dundonald Ice Bowl on the outskirts of east Belfast last night as a group of ten teenagers from a Protestant Church group were on a bus.

A youth approached and asked them where they were from. He was told they were from Armagh.

Shortly afterwards a young man in the party was struck on the head by a stone which smashed through a window. A second window was also broken by a missile.

When members of the youth group got off the bus, three boys and a girl were assaulted by youths who had been standing nearby. The victims were not seriously injured but were badly shaken.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the incident was being treated as sectarian as it is believed the youths thought the party were Catholics from Co Armagh.
