MANIFESTO LAUNCH:THE NORTHERN Ireland Greens have begun campaigning for the European elections with the promise of a Green "New Deal".
Candidate Steven Agnew, the 29-year-old researcher for the party’s sole Assembly member Brian Wilson, is offering a “resource revolution” and striving to create up to 50,000 “green collar jobs” created and sustained for electricians, fitters, plumbers, engineers and construction workers.
Mr Agnew said such skills existed in abundance in Northern Ireland and could not be outsourced to lower-wage economies.
Addressing a manifesto launch in Bangor, Co Down, he stressed that his party was not linked with business in any way and did not accept political donations from the corporate sector.
Every home in Northern Ireland could be equipped with renewable energy technology “making each of them a mini-power station”.
The manifesto’s Green “New Deal” extends across all sectors with specific proposals on transport, food production, public health and social justice.
