Greek police said on Tuesday they had arrested another member of the deadly November 17 guerrillas, bringing the total number of arrests to 11 as authorities declared victory over the group.

The police commander for the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki said school teacher Mr Konstantinos Telios (37) had turned himself in.

"This afternoon he came to me spontaneously and said he had taken part in specific actions of the November 17 group under the codename Markos," Mr Nikoforos Tzatzakis said.

He said Mr Telios, named by police as a member of the group a few days earlier, would be flown to Athens for questioning.

According to arrested group members' testimony, leaked today, Telios participated in a 1988 theft of rockets from an army camp in central Greece and a bank robbery.

Hours before the latest arrest, authorities declared victory over November 17, saying they believed the 10 suspects detained before Mr Telios were responsible for most of its attacks and that almost all of its weapons had been seized.

Greek officials, eager to show the world the 2004 Athens Olympic Games would be free from terrorist attack, said only one key suspect was still at large from a band that has killed 23 people, including US and British diplomats, since 1975.

Police also were looking for several other so-called "foot soldiers" who had not played a major role in the group.

Greek authorities have already charged nine people with multiple counts of murder, including the assassination of US, British and Turkish diplomats.
