British police investigating the disappearance of a 12-year-old schoolgirl in south London have charged her grandmothers partner with murder.

Stuart Hazell (37) is accused of killing Tia Sharp, who went missing in the New Addington district on August 3rd, the Metropolitan Police has said.

Mr Hazell will appear at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court today, the police said. Christine Sharp, the girl’s grandmother, has been released on bail following her arrest on suspicion of murder. Another man, Paul Meehan (39), who was detained on suspicion of assisting an offender, has also been released on bail pending further inquiries. A body found at Christine Sharp’s home on August 10th has yet to be formally identified. – (Bloomberg)
