Minister for the Environment John Gormley has formally signed the order appointing Friday, October 2nd as polling day for the second Lisbon Treaty referendum.

Mr Gormley appointed Maurice Coughlan, principal officer in his department as returning officer for the ballot. Mr Coughlan also served as returning officer in the June 2008 referendum, in which the treaty was rejected by 53.4 per cent to 46.6 per cent.

The electorate will be asked to vote for or against the amendment to the Constitution contained in the Twenty-Eighth Amendment of the Constitution (Treaty of Lisbon) Bill 2009.

Polling will take place between 7am and 10pm.

Those who wish to be included on the supplementary electoral register for the referendum must submit their application to their local authority by Tuesday September 15th.

Those who wish to be included on the supplementary register for a postal vote must apply to their local authority by this Wednesday, July 15th, Mr Gormley said.
