Manchester United goalkeeper Andy Goram is set to miss out on Champions League action because of the return from injury of the club's top two goalkeepers, according to the Daily Mail.

Fabien Barthez and Raimond van der Gouw are on the way back to full fitness and that means United will not be allowed to register Goram for the Champions League under the special dispensation received from UEFA.

United have not yet registered Goram, the former Scotland and Rangers goalkeeper signed as emergency cover in a stg£100,000 deadline-day deal from Motherwell.

A UEFA spokeswoman told the Daily Mail: "Manchester United have not applied to register any new goalkeeper for the Champions League, although regulations on this situation do not mention a deadline."

The French World Cup winner wants to face Liverpool at Anfield in the Premiership on Saturday.

Van der Gouw had knee surgery a month ago, but is also back training, and believes he can make the bench for Tuesday night's Champions League quarter-final with Bayern Munich at Old Trafford. -PA-
