Baltimore - A portion of a 9th Century Islamic manuscript called the Gold Koran, which disappeared from Turkey untold generations ago, began the first leg of its journey back to Istanbul yesterday. The Gold Koran's first volume of 18 suras or chapters, which had belonged to Johns Hopkins University since 1942, was turned over to the Turkish Cultural Minister in a ceremony at the Turkish Embassy in Washington.
