A three-year-old girl, Erica Prenderville, died in a fire at her home in Limerick yesterday, writes Eibhir Mulqueen, Midwest Correspondent.

The girl's mother, Ms Annette Prenderville, of Pine view Gardens, Moyross, raised the alarm shortly after 9 a.m. and neighbours tried to rescue the girl from an upstairs bedroom which was gutted by the blaze.

The State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, carried out a post-mortem. Foul play was ruled out.

Ms Prenderville was treated at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital for smoke inhalation.
