GARDAI continued to question a 16 year old girl yesterday about the killing of a Co Galway farmer, Mr Tom Casey (68). A 20 year old man who was also being questioned was released last night but immediately rearrested on an unrelated larceny charge.
The detention of the girl, who is from Dublin, under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act was extended by 24 hours at lunchtime yesterday.
She had been arrested outside Dublin District Court on Monday after receiving a suspended sentence on a theft charge.
It is understood that the man, who is originally from Galway city but living in Clare, was also questioned at Mill Street station, Galway, about robberies in Galway and Clare, including one at a farmhouse on the night Mr Casey is believed to have been murdered.
If charges are to be brought against him in relation to these, it is understood he may appear before Galway District Court today.
