Permit-holder Lavinia Taylor landed the biggest success of her training career when 12-1 shot Gingembre galloped to glory in the stg£100,000 Gala Group Scottish Grand National at Ayr today.
The seven-year-old, who had finished second in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Newbury earlier this season, was always travelling well under Andrew Thornton and proved five lengths too strong for runner-up Ad Hoc (10-1) in the run to the line.
Thornton said: "He gave me a dream ride all the way round, he even pricked his ears on the home turn."
Supreme Glory (14-1) was third with 50-1 outsider Last Option back in fourth. Mrs Taylor's husband John explained: "We were either going to come here or go to the Whitbread at Sandown - we won't go for the Whitbread now but we'll go back for the Hennessy next season. He's only young.
"We train and own our own horses, we only have eight. We do this for fun, as far as we're concerned that's what jumps racing is about, not the money."
