Hollywood actor Mr Gene Hackman has been involved in a fight with two men after a collision with their car at a busy road junction in Los Angeles.

According to witnesses Mr Hackman's car collided with a Volvo estate just off Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.

Both drivers pulled over, then the driver of the Volvo, a man in his 30s, became angry and began verbally abusing Mr Hackman.

The man is thought to have said something to Mr Hackman that provoked him into hitting him before the second man kicked the actor in the groin.

According to Mr Hackman's publicist, he was waiting in the right lane of a busy junction in his car when a vehicle in a left lane attempted to make a right turn in front of him.

"He hit the car from the back. He got out, said it was his fault.

"The two men confronted him, were belligerent, and they persisted in their belligerence," the spokesman said. "They shoved him in the chest, they hit him, and he got in a fight with the two of them."

A spokesman for the LAPD said the men had stopped fighting by the time police reached the scene and no charges had been filed against anyone.
