Gardaí in Westmeath are investigating the theft yesterday of an articulated truck containing cigarettes, mobile phones and televisions.

At approximately 3.30 a.m. a group of four men, two dressed as gardaí, stopped the truck near the village of Tyrrellspass. The driver was overpowered and locked in a shed until he managed to free himself several hours later.

The truck is described as a white Scania artic, and the trailer is a white box with the words "Good Care experts on distribution" on the side. The truck was registered 03-SO-1776j and has not yet been located. Gardaí at Mullingar are investigating the incident.
