Gardai with sniffer dogs have recovered cannabis resin with an estimated street value of £4,500 from waste ground near the seafront in Balbriggan, in north Co Dublin. Acting on information received, they searched the area close to a car park early on Wednesday morning and large blocks of the drug were located in one package.

Insp Gerry O'Brien of Balbriggan said the drug had been well concealed and appeared to have been there for only a short period. Gardai did not immediately release information about the find but maintained surveillance. They later arrested a local man who was interviewed before being released without charge.
