GARDAÍ BELIEVE they are close to bringing a murder charge against the chief suspect for Dublin’s most recent gangland attack.
The suspect was among eight people arrested since Seamus O’Byrne (27) was shot dead in Tallaght, west Dublin, eight days ago.
The father of one and his partner were ambushed outside their home at Tymon North Park at 8.30pm last Friday, March 13th.
The dead man’s 26-year-old partner tried to tackle the gunman and was shot in the leg. The gunman dropped the murder weapon at the scene and his face was also scratched by the dead man’s partner. Gardaí believe DNA samples identified during the forensic examination link one of the men in custody to the killing.
O’Byrne’s murder is part of a feud between two gangs in the Crumlin and Drimnagh areas. The dead man, who was originally from Landsdowne Valley, Drimnagh, was a close associate of the leader of one of the gangs.
The suspect for the O’Byrne murder is known to gardaí, and is originally from north Wicklow.
On Thursday gardaí arrested a woman in her 20s and brought her for questioning to Rathfarnham Garda station. She was the eighth person to be arrested.
Three people who had been held by gardaí were released without charge last night.
Gardaí have found two cars they believe were used in the attack. However, they are appealing for the public’s assistance to establish the movements of a white, 5-door Nissan Micra hatchback registration number 93 MH 3613.
