Relatives of Englishman Alan Moore (62), whose body lay undiscovered in a rented house in Wexford for up to two months, are preparing to travel to Ireland for a funeral service next week.
A brother of the deceased contacted Wexford Garda station last weekend after a notice appeared in the Salford Advertiser, appealing for his next of kin to come forward.
The body of Mr Moore, who was from Salford in Manchester, was found by gardaí after the alarm was raised by a woman who spotted a Christmas tree still lighting in the window of his home at 53 Lower John Street, close to the centre of Wexford town, on March 18th.
A search began to find his next of kin and Wexford gardaí enlisted the help of Interpol in an effort to contact relatives in the UK.
Mr Moore, who arrived in Wexford about six years ago, lived alone and did not mix with neighbours. On a few occasions he had sought the assistance of Wexford Fianna Fáil councillor Fergie Kehoe, who described him as a private man who did not trust people easily.
Mr Kehoe received a telephone call from a niece of the deceased last Saturday after an appeal appeared in the Salford Advertiser on Thursday. The councillor paid tribute to gardaí for their efforts.
It is expected a funeral service will be held at Mulligan’s Funeral Home in the Faythe, Wexford next week.
