A Jury has heard that a woman who claims she was raped and sexually assaulted by her older brother had also made allegations against other members of her family.

Garda Eileen Varhey told defence counsel Mr Coleman Fitzgerald on the third day of the trial that the alleged victim made the allegations against the other family members in a statement to gardai.

The 36-year-old accused from south county Dublin has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to a total of 13 charges of rape and sexual assault of his sister. The charges include seven of indecent assault on dates unknown between March 1980 and March 1985, and six of rape on dates unknown between April 1981 and May 1988.

Garda Varhey, earlier, told prosecuting counsel Mr Des Zaiden that the 30-year-old alleged victim was very upset and stressed at the time of the statement. The jury has heard in previous evidence that she also claimed to have been sexually abused by three other brothers. She claimed four of her brothers, including the accused, sexually assaulted her three to five times per week over an eight-year period.
