A garda is in intensive care after he was stabbed in Westport in the early hours of the morning.
Garda Daryl Mullen (32), from Tuam, was investigating an incident on James St, Westport, at about 1am when he suffered a stab wound to his abdomen.
Garda Mullen was taken by colleagues to Mayo General Hospital where he underwent surgery. He remains in intensive care and his condition was described as stable tonight.
A teenager has been charged in relation to the incident. He will appear before Mullingar District Court at 10.30am tomorrow, Monday.
