Garda∅ have discounted reports yesterday which suggested that the seizure over the weekend of £2 million worth of heroin in Dublin was linked to raids carried out by British police in Liverpool.

According to the Garda Press Office, the Garda secured about £2 million worth of drugs in separate, unconnected raids in Dublin city and county, while also giving "small" assistance to police in Liverpool in an anti-drugs operation there.

Garda∅ arrested six people and, in addition to the drugs, seized two sawn-off shotguns and around £20,000 in cash. Meanwhile British police in Liverpool raided a number of homes and arrested 15 people suspected of involvement in the heroin trade.

While garda∅ say they were involved, they maintain the involvement was slight.
