The Garda are investigating an escape attempt by three prisoners from Mountjoy Prison in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A Prisons’ Service spokeswoman said a prison warden, on routine patrol at 1 a.m. heard a suspicious noise from a cell on the ground floor of ‘C’ Wing.
He discovered that the three men had blocked the door and were attempting to remove the mesh from the window of their cell.
After a four hour stand-off the men gave themselves up voluntarily and the situation was brought under control.
