An off duty member of the Garda was briefly dragged along a road in Glencree, Co Wicklow, yesterday afternoon as two thieves stole his car. The man was taken to Loughlinstown Hospital where gardai said his injuries were not very serious.
Gardai said the officer had acted to prevent two men from snatching a handbag at Glencree Recreational Centre. The men then attacked the garda and stole his car. The car was later involved in a collision with another car at Mount Venus. Road, in Rathfarnham, Dublin.
Gardai said there was only one man in the stolen car. He was taken to St James's Hospital. They did not know what had become of the second man.
