Meanwhile, a Garda Checkpoints Cork Twitter page has over 1,600 followers.

Posts on the Garda Checkpoints Dublin page include: “Garda on motor bike doing speed checks on outer ring road before Pennyhill pub, Lucan.” and “Checkpoint - Coast Road, Clontarf on the city side of Vernon Ave. Tax & Insurance.”

Posts on the Garda Checkpoints Cork page include: “Watergrasshill: Guard car on sliproad onto motorway at watergrasshill heading to cork.”

Last month, Fine Gael Senator Catherine Noone called on Facebook to close the pages and said they were irresponsible.

“I would say that I find it disappointing that these pages are still in circulation," she said today. "Speed cameras and checkpoints are designed to bring about a change in driving behaviour and save lives. Any attempt to dupe the system simply puts all road users at risk and should be discouraged.”
