A garda based in Co Galway was arrested earlier this week and questioned about alleged sexual abuse of young girls over an extended period, it was confirmed yesterday. He was arrested on Wednesday, taken toe Salthill Garda station and released after questioning.
Supt Jim Sugrue, who is heading the investigation, said a file was being forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions. The man, married and in his early 40s, has been suspended from duty.
