A garda has been found not guilty by direction in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of handling a stolen car on dates between January 1996 and January 1998.
A second charge of handling another stolen car remained on the indictment but Judge Dominic Lynch discharged the jury in relation to this as he said it would be unfair to all parties to ask them to continue.
Garda Patrick Farrelly (42), Stameen Lawns, Drogheda, pleaded not guilty to handling a stolen Honda Civic between January 3rd, 1996 and January 28th, 1998 and a stolen Saab on between September 5th, 1996 and February 1998 while knowing the cars to be stolen.
Gda Farrelly has been remanded on continuing bail until July 12th when a new date for trial will be set.
