Galway Corporation backs hotel

GALWAY councillors are to consider allowing the development of a £7 million hotel on land it owns in the Salthill resort

GALWAY councillors are to consider allowing the development of a £7 million hotel on land it owns in the Salthill resort. The hotel would be designed to attract conference business.

After the local authority sought proposals for the site, there were about 70 inquiries which led to seven tenders for its development, according to the city manager, Mr Joe Gavin.

The authority has recommended that city councillors approve the hotel proposal submitted by Inland which owns the Hodson Bay Hotel outside Athlone.

The four star 150 bedroom hotel would provide 120 full time jobs. The corporation would receive £1 million from the developer.
