Genoa - Next month's Genoa summit of world leaders could be held on a military base or a ship anchored miles out at sea due to fears of violent protests, the head of the area's regional government said yesterday.
But Mr Sandro Biasotti, president of Italy's Liguria region of which Genoa is the capital, said the final decision on moving the Group of Eight (G8) meeting lay with the Rome government. The leaders of the US, Canada, Japan, Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Russia are currently due to meet in the Palazzo Ducale, a 16th century palace in the heart of the former maritime republic.
