Fyffes has announced a fall in pretax profit for 2007 of 31 per cent.

Fyffes has announced a fall in pretax profit for 2007 of 31 per cent.

Fyffes, which has split its general and tropical fruit business into two separate companies, said it posted a pretax profit of €13.2 million ($19.3 million) last year, compared to €19.1 million from continuing operations a year earlier.

The company said higher costs of fruit, shipping and fuel have outweighed favourable exchange rates and higher volumes.

One of the largest importers of tropical fruit into Europe, the Irish company said it targeted mid-single digit percentage growth in adjusted earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) for 2008.
