The funeral took place yesterday in Co Wicklow of Anne O'Byrne, the first female president of the Irish League of Credit Unions.
Among those in attendance were John Hume, former MEP and leader of the SDLP, who was a founder of the credit union movement in Ireland; and Jack Boothman, former president of the GAA.
Ms O'Byrne worked as a volunteer with her local credit union, served for 10 years on the national executive of the Irish League of Credit Unions, and two years as national president up to 2007.
The Irish League of Credit Unions has some 530 credit unions throughout Ireland and all were represented at Ms O'Byrne's funeral yesterday.
The Church of Our Lady in Blessington was full for her funeral Mass, which was celebrated by her brother-in-law Fr Paddy O'Byrne and five other priests.
Among those to pay tribute to her at the Mass was Liam O'Dwyer, chief executive of the credit union movement in Ireland.
Ms O'Byrne was born into a famous Wexford hurling family - the Quigleys of Rathnure. Brothers Dan, Pat John, Jim and Martin all played for the Wexford county team.
