A campaign to raise funds for a closed-circuit TV system for Dundalk town centre was launched yesterday. Dundalk Chamber of Commerce, the UDC and local gardai all gave their support to plans to install up to 14 cameras in an effort to reduce and prevent crime.
The Minister for Justice, Mr O'Donoghue, yesterday said the application for a CCTV system was still under consideration by his Department. The Department of Justice will provide 50 per cent of the estimated cost of £500,000. The rest must be provided locally.
