London - A go-slow truck convoy by fuel protesters travelled down one of England's busiest roads towards London yesterday but police banned it from entering the capital.
About 50 vehicles were making their way south on the 280-mile (450-km) drive from Newcastle to London. The turnout was small compared to fuel protests in September. Scotland Yard police headquarters in London said they had set up an exclusion zone around the capital to prevent the convoy from entering the city centre. Police said the motorcade, which is pressing for lower duty on petrol and diesel, would be stopped when it reached the M25 motorway circling the city.
