Frost leads Air Canada Championship

South Africa's David Frost birdied his final hole to grab a one-shot lead after the first round of the $3

South Africa's David Frost birdied his final hole to grab a one-shot lead after the first round of the $3.5 million Air Canada Championship.

Winless on the tour since 1997, Frost finished his round at six-under-par 65. He is one stroke in front of Australia's Peter Lonard, Japan's Shigeki Maruyama and Americans Scott Gump and Hank Kuehne.

"The first round you never want to shoot yourself out of the game," Frost said. "It's hard coming back the second round. You want to stay in touch with the field. It's nice coming out and shooting a 65 this morning".

Ulsterman Darren Clarke opened with a one-over 72.
