A French woman who suffers from epilepsy fears she may never have children because of injuries received in a racially motivated attack in Cork city.

Ms Lila Dorgan (32) was assaulted by two women outside her home in North Main Street, Cork, shortly after 2 a.m. on September 24th, 2000.

Cork Circuit Criminal Court was told Ms Dorgan had been returning home from a night out with her Irish husband, Kevin.

She spotted one of the defendants urinating outside her front door.

Ms Dorgan approached June Moore (21) and Linda O'Driscoll (21), of Knocknaheeny, Cork, and words were exchanged.

Sgt Alan Cronin said O'Driscoll knocked Ms Dorgan to the ground and started banging her head. Moore kicked the injured party repeatedly.

The victim's husband tried to rescue his wife but was attacked by a man.

Garda∅ were called but the women continued to attack Ms Dorgan, hurling racist remarks at the dark-skinned French woman.

Ms Dorgan was hospitalised for two weeks following the assaults.

She has experienced a significant increase in epileptic attacks.

The victim told the court she left Cork and returned to France with her husband because of fears of further racist attacks.

Sentencing was adjourned.

Judge Patrick J. Moran remanded the defendants on continuing bail.

They are to appear at Cork Circuit Criminal Court next February 15th.
