CAIRO - Arab foreign ministers decided yesterday to call for a freeze of ties with Israel and the closure of liaison and interests bureaux in the Jewish state, an Arab League official said.
The decision came after the 22 member league accused Israel of slamming the door on peace with the construction of a new Jewish neighbourhood in historically Arab east Jerusalem.
Ministers at an Arab League conference here "took a decision recommending a halt to all measures of normalisation with Israel within the framework of the peace process," said Mr Said Kamal, the league's deputy secretary general for Palestinian affairs. These included the closure of bureaux and missions.
