Four yachts with 21 crew who were taking part in the Dún Laoghaire regatta were rescued in Dublin Bay yesterday.
The alert was raised by a race committee boat after 5pm when a boat dismasted near the mouth of Dublin Port. The Dublin marine rescue co-ordination centre alerted RNLI lifeboats at Dún Laoghaire and Howth.
Two yachts were dismasted and two other vessels got into difficulty, one with a rope caught in its propeller. Rescue services brought the four yachts in tow to Dún Laoghaire.
All on board were reported to be safe.
