FOUR UNITS of Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene of a fire that spread to a number of houses in Tallaght, Co Dublin, yesterday.
Firemen were notified of the fire at Bolbrook Grove, off the Avonmore Road near the Tallaght bypass, shortly before 10am.
A spokesman for Dublin Fire Brigade said an off-duty fireman in the area notified the control centre that the fire was "fairly serious".
Two units from Tallaght fire station were despatched, along with two additional tenders from Dolphins Barn and Rathfarnham due to the extent of the fire. The fire was brought under control and two tenders were withdrawn.
"They dealt with a serious fire. I believe it spread to up to four houses. But the guards have confirmed that nobody was hurt. Everyone was accounted for and everyone was okay," he said.
A staff member at AJ's Mini-market, across the main road from the estate, said he had not seen the fire but customers coming into the store were discussing it.
"They mentioned an explosion in the attic of one of the houses," he said. This could not be confirmed, however.
A Garda spokesman said: "We will be investigating all the circumstances."
