Four people have been killed in separate road crashes in Down and Clare.
Three people were killed in Co Down today when their car collided with another vehicle on a notorious stretch of road just outside the small town Comber.
The two men and a woman died when their silver Mitsubishi collided with a BMW on Killinchy Road shortly after midnight.
The Mitsubishi car was split in two by the force of the impact. The male driver of the BMW was not injured in the crash.
One of victims was last night named by the PSNI as John Pirie (31) from Killyleagh, Co Down. The other two victims’ names were being withheld at the request of the families, a PSNI spokeswoman said.
The collision was third fatal crash in the areas in just over a month.
A man was killed on late last night in a single-vehicle crash in Co Clare.
The man, who was named yesterday as John Sheehan (30), from Hazel Grove, Ruan , Co Clare, died when his car left the road and crashed outside Toormore near Ennis.
Mr Sheehan was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death brought the number killed on the State’s roads to 234 this year, down 33 on the period in 2008.
Gardaí this evening named the victim of a two-car collision in Sligo yesterday as Rose Holmes (46) from Annaghbay, Ballinode, Co Sligo.
They also named the motorcyclist was killed when his bike collided with a car in Co Dublin yesterday as John Bialey (57) from Skerries Road, Balbriggan.
The pedestrian who died after struck by a lorry at Barrack Street, Armagh, yesterday has also been named as John Basil Stinson (76) who lived in Armagh.
