Dublin gardai are investigating a spate of assaults in the city last night and early today. A garda in his 20s needed stitches for a neck wound after he was struck by an object in Dunard Estate off Blackhorse Avenue at around 10.30 p.m. The incident happened after gardai entered the estate to retrieve a stolen car and came under fire from youths throwing missiles.

A Dublin Bus driver was also treated in hospital after being stabbed with a syringe on Lower Kilmacud Road. His assailant made off with an undisclosed sum of money.

In Firhouse at 11.30 p.m., a man was dragged from his BMW car at Woodlawn Park Grove and beaten by a gang who then stole the vehicle.

About an hour later a man was stabbed in the back with a scissors at Bunting Road in Walkinstown. Two men were arrested and taken to Crumlin Garda station for questioning.
