Four men have been arrested in Limerick as part of an ongoing operation into a series of shooting incidents in the Moyross area.

The four - aged 18, 21, 21 and 41 respectively - were arrested by a special Garda unit operating in the area.

Four firearms including two rifles and two sawn-off shotguns and a quantity of ammunition were seized.

All four are being detained at various unnamed Garda Stations in Limerick under Section 30 Offences of the State Act.

Violence has escalated between rival gangs in the Moyross area in recent weeks. On September 17th, Frankie Ryan was murdered as he sat in a parked van, by a gunman on a motorbike. A week earlier,  Millie Murray (6) and her four-year-old brother Gavin suffered severe burns when the car in which they were waiting, was torched. Last weekend, around 100 people attended a rally in Limerick city calling for an end to the violence. Gang feuds have resulted in up to six murders in the Moyross area since 2000.
