Four young children died in a house fire in a Derbyshire village in the United Kingdom last night.

Four young children died in a house fire in a Derbyshire village in the United Kingdom last night.

Emergency services were called to a house in Hulland Ward, near Ashbourne, Derbyshire, at 11.30pm yesterday.

Police said that when the blaze at the house in Highfield Road was put out, four children were found to have died. The boys were aged nine and four, and the girls were six and two.

A woman (45) was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

At the back of the semi-detached house, the two top-floor windows had been pulled out and parts of the charred rooms inside could be seen. Dozens of bricks, especially around the left-hand side first- floor window, were scorched by the intensity of the blaze.

The whole of Highfield Road had been placed within the police cordon and forensics officers are examining the property.
