Washington - Mr Steve Forbes's millions could not keep his US presidential attempt afloat in this year's hotly contested elections, but he bowed out yesterday boasting that they did push his flat-tax campaign to the forefront of the political debate.
"The establishment really feared the ideas that we put on the table," said the Republican publishing tycoon, who has been campaigning virtually non-stop on a radical flat tax platform since his first White House attempt in 1996.
In his two campaigns, Mr Forbes spent some $70 million (£55 1/2 million) from his family fortune, estimated at about $450 million.
