Those facing immediate hardship as a result of flooding in parts of the south, the west and the midlands may apply to their local Health Service Executive (HSE) community welfare office for assistance.
While there was no immediate evidence of an influx of claimants, the HSE said it was expecting the numbers to grow as people assess the damage to their homes.
HSE South community services general manager Gabrielle O’Keeffe said additional clinics had been set up only on Tuesday, so it was “a bit early” to assess how many would seek assistance or how much money they would get.
Financial assistance for “immediate personal need” could normally be dealt with “very quickly”.
