The first birth of the new year was recorded in Waterford at just 28 seconds after midnight on January 1st.
Rebecca Hennessy from Ballymacaw, Dunmore East gave birth to Ava, a baby girl, at Waterford Regional Hospital.
The first baby of the new year in Dublin was born at Mount Carmel Hospital at 12.01am.
Baby boy Harvey was born to parents Tanya Hetherington and Stephen Kelly, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Harvey, who weighed in at 6 lbs 7 ounces (2.9kgs), is their second child.
The couple are from Glenageary in Co Dublin.
The first birth recorded at the Coombe hospital in Dublin this year was a boy born to a Co Kildare couple.
Robert, son of Anete and Peter Kowalczyk from Celbridge, was born at 12.25am
Robert, who weighed in at 5lbs, 12 ounces (2.6kgs), is their first child.
