Ajaccio - Firemen using three firefighting aircraft struggled yesterday to control the latest in a string of blazes which have ravaged about 4,000 hectares of forest and scrubland in Corsica this summer.

Soldiers helped local firemen fight two fires fanned by high winds which swept through 300 hectares of scrubland in the northern part of the French Mediterranean island.
