Fiorentina players say if they are not paid by Friday they will take measures against their cash-strapped employers.

The players made their threat through spokesman and club captain Angelo Di Livio who had to restrain the players from taking immediate action, instead persuading his colleagues to wait until Friday.

Italian international di Livio said: "We have given the club until Friday the chance to remedy the unpaid wages. If by November 2nd the final word has not been written in this story then we will be obliged to take measures. Nothing is excluded, even the possible of having the club formally declared to be in default."

The club's administrator Luciano Luca was sympathetic.

"I am waiting for the definitive answer from certain credit institutions," said Luca.

"I understand and justify di Livio's ultimatum: the picture is clear. Either we manage to come up with a concrete signal this week or there will be nothing more that can be done."

A formal request for the club to be declared in default would require immediate action from the bankruptcy tribunal.
