Gardaí investigating the activities of criminal groups involved in drug trafficking in the west Dublin have arrested a fifth man tonight.

The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested at a house in Navan, Co Meath after gardaí seized cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €100,000.

The man was taken to Navan Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.

Earlier four other men, all aged in their 30s, were arrested and drugs seized following Garda raids on houses in west Dublin.

A number of searches were carried out on properties in Blanchardstown, Mulhuddart and Clonsilla as part of an ongoing investigation.

Cannabis plants and herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €1.5 million was seized along with cash €20,000 were seized in the operation.

The men are being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act at Blanchardstown and Ballymun Garda stations.
