Mr Eddie Reilly, a former general secretary of Fine Gael, is expected to be nominated as a Dail candidate for the Wexford constituency by the party's national executive.
Mr Reilly, principal of the local vocational college in Wexford, has been director of elections for Ms Avril Doyle MEP for the past number of years.
