THE appointment of Judge Catherine McGuinness to the High Court could result in delays to 30 family law cases, according to a solicitors' group.
Mr Justin McKenna, of the Dublin Solicitors' Bar Association, said. "As a High Court judge she will be debarred from completing the hearing of these actions. With the list already cluttered with cases it could mean a wait of over a year.
Judge McGuinness's appointment was announced by the Government on Tuesday with details of its crime package. She was appointed to the High Court along with Mr Thomas S. Smyth SC, and will receive her seal of office next Tuesday.
