A family-of-five narrowly escaped injury in a bomb attack in Northern Ireland which police have blamed on loyalists.

The attack caused damage to the front of their home not far from Belfast shortly before 4am today.

Men aged 50, 21 and 15 and women aged 47 and 20 were in the property in Brantwood Gardens, Antrim, at the time.

Detectives appealed for anybody in the area at the time to come forward. They want to speak to two young men seen on bicycles. They also hope to speak to any milkmen who may have been in the vicinity.

It is understood a claim of responsibility was made to a local media outlet this morning by a loyalist grouping.

Police remain at the scene.
