A visit to the Sean Keating exhibition at the electronics engineering building on UCC's main campus is well worthwhile.

This unique exhibition contains works commissioned by the ESB in 1926 illustrating the development of the hydro-electric scheme at Ardnacrusha.

Keating was on site during much of the construction and his contemporary record of the huge scheme - part of the building of modern Ireland - is a valuable record.

Keating's paintings were the first and largest industrial commission in the history of the State and reflected the tensions inherent in Ireland's tentative steps from a rural to an industrial economy.

The exhibition runs until Saturday and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Fenton Gallery at Wandesford Quay shows how a once forlorn area can be used to the best advantage.

The new gallery is housed in a refurbished complex, part of old Cork, and has more than 2,000 sq ft of space opening on to a large courtyard, as well as studio space for 30 artists and a printing workshop.

It was developed by Nuala Fenton, a graduate in art history from Trinity College Dublin.

The inaugural exhibition, featuring the work of Dorothy Cross and Charles Tyrrell, is running until June 24th.

Cross, a native of Cork, has earned a huge reputation and is the only Irish artist shown in the new Tate Modern.
