The former Pogressive Democrat TD, Mae Sexton, is back in politics again after an absence of over two years when she lost her Longford/Westmeath constituency seat to James Bannon, the Fine Gael TD in June 2007.

Ms Sexton, standing as an independent was elected to Longford Town Council late this evening and expects to follow up her return to politics by winning a seat on the county council as well.

Counting of the Longford county council votes has only just started in Longford sports centre following the counting of town council results which is continuing.
