Eurozone 12-month inflation in May is expected to be 2 per cent, down from 2.4 per cent in April, according to a "flash estimate" today by Eurostat, the EU's statistics branch.
The flash estimate, begun this year, is measured by the Monetary Union Index of Consumer Prices (MUICP), computed from early price data for the reference month supplied by the 12 Eurozone states, as well as early energy price information.
Eurostat stressed the flash estimate was merely an extrapolation of incomplete data, although reasonably reliable according to historical simulations.
